Jim Marshall - US Rock Photographer Legend dies at age 74

Until a few weeks ago I'd never met Jim Marshall. I knew his work, and his legendary ways, but until we both were on the panel with Graham Nash to launch the Taking aim book and Exhibition, our paths had not crossed. Jim was friendly and sociable and I'm glad I finally met him before he and his beloved Leica left us. But with the picture at the left the legendary persona of Jim showed, most photographers don't like being photographed, and when the pressing of the shutter was taking too long he uttered the immortal words "Just take the f****** picture". A lasting final memory of a real character!
The photo is Neal Preston, Jim Marshall, Henry Diltz, Chris Walter and Graham Nash.

Taking Aim - with Graham Nash in Seattle
The Taking Aim event at EMP in Seattle was terrific. Graham Nash plus nine photographers from the book. I was there along with Jim Marshall, Neal Preston, Henry Diltz, Joel Bernstein, Alan Messer, Alice Wheeler, Charles Peterson and the amazing 94 year old Jini Dellaccio.
The book and exhibition is a terrific collection of Rock photos picked by Graham Nash from all era's. Graham was a fabulous host and moderator, with great stories and a deep knowledge of photography. As a pioneer of digital printing with partner Mac Holbert at Nash Editions he legitimized the inkjet process for art prints.
Thanks to Jasen Emmons at EMP and Michelle and the Chronicle Books folk for a great show and book.
Photos from the event will be here Monday night.

We will be including the classic Magical Mystery Tour 'Where's Ringo" photo and others from MMT. There will also be a number of photos on framed canvas from a discontinued edition at special prices. These can be seen on our Fest site

Scott Walker 30 Century Man
The Scott Walker documentary 'Scott Walker 30 Century Man' just opened a theatrical run in Los Angeles. There are 20+ photos of mine in the movie and I met up with the Director, Stephen Kijak (left) Friday evening for the showing and a Q & A after wards. It is an excellent portrait of this enigmatic and reclusive artist who is one of my all time favorite singers. Scott Walker photos. All the showings have been well attended, and Universal is finally releasing the Scott solo CD's for the first time.

Red Rocks
Red Rocks, Colorado. What a great venue. We have our showing in the Southwest Airlines Hall Of Fame area. Great music crowd Saturday night, it also was pointed out to us that September 1st was the date 39 years ago that Jimi Hendrix played Red Rocks.
The show last night was terrific. Etta James was back after her illness and was in great voice, Al Green was superb with a fabulous band, and BB King was himself. The sound in that venue was the best I have ever heard.
